New York CooksYesterday we featured Joan Krellenstein and Barbara Winkler’s new cookbook, New York Cooks: 100 Recipes from the City’s Best Chefs, as well as the recipe for Joey Campanaro’s Gravy Meatball Sliders. As promised, today we’ve got the authors go-to New York City restaurants for any occasion.

Joan Krellenstein Special occasion: There's no "haute" better than Terrance Brennan's Picholine. Sunday brunch: Salt is great—delicious food and a warm, friendly atmosphere. They serve it on Saturday, too. Date night: Bridge Cafe. My husband loves this restaurant and we've been going there for years, so it has many happy memories plus great food. Quick snack: Artisanal for wine and cheese—I could live on this! Late night: This is a tough one for me as I'm not a night owl anymore, but Gemma does room service for the Bowery Hotel. And I do enjoy room service! Barbara Winkler Special occasion: Gramercy Tavern is always excellent—great food, great atmosphere, and you can take anyone there and always be assured of fantastic food and a fantastic time. For Italian, you can't beat Insieme for a really memorable meal. Sunday brunch: Centro Vinoteca. I love the fried eggs on polenta with brocolli rabe and spicy tomato sauce, but you can also get sausage pizzetta or a great cuban panini. Date night: Allegretti: it's very small and spare and has divine French food. For coziness, nostalgia, and a step back in time, Allen & Delancey is perfect, with American cuisine that lives up to the setting. Quick snack: Porchetta in the East Village for their insanely fabulous porchetta sandwich; Waldy's in Chelsea for pizza like you never had before; and ‘wichcraft for a sandwich or salad. I highly recommend the fried egg, bacon, gorgonzola, and frisée or the meatloaf and cheddar. Late night: Casa Mono: the tapas offerings mean you don't need to eat a lot...or spend a lot. A plate of mussels or fideos with chorizo and clams, along with some nice Spanish wine, always hits the spot.
