Reel Food: Women in Culinary Leadership Cookoff
Our friends at AVSTelevision put together a video of last week's Women in Culinary Leadership Cookoff at Vermilion. Check it out below:
Vermilion's Women in Culinary Leadership Cookoff
Aspiring female culinarians: think you have what it takes to be the next great chef? Put your mise en place where your mouth is and apply for a chance to compete in the Vermilion's Women in Culinary Leadership Cookoff.
To enter, you must submit a resume, an essay or YouTube video, and a recipe for one contemporary Indian-Latin dish through Vermilion’s online entry form by Friday, February 15. Eight finalists will be chosen to participate in the cookoff at New York City's Vermilion restaurant in February, where each competitor will execute her recipe and conduct a brief interview with a panel of judges. The panel will choose two winners, who will participate in a one-year leadership program at Vermilion's New York and Chicago locations; receive a weekly $500 internship grant from the Women in Culinary Leadership Scholarship; and experience a one-week operations internship at the James Beard House. The winners will also have the... Read more >
Video: The James Beard Foundation Scholarship Program
A cookbook author and teacher, James Beard was dedicated to educating and mentoring generations of professional chefs and food enthusiasts. In honor of his supportive spirit, the James Beard Foundation established the JBF Scholarship Program in 1991. Since its inception, the program has awarded over $4.2 million in financial aid to over 1,400 deserving recipients. At last month's Silver Anniversary Gala, we debuted the following video that highlights this important aspect of our mission and features interviews with three scholarship winners. Watch below:
Q & A with Rohini Dey, Restaurateur and "Women in Culinary Leadership" Program Partner

Like many industries, the world of restaurants suffers from a dearth of female leaders. Read on to get Dey's perspective about this important initiative.

Apply for JBF's Jean-Louis Palladin Professional Work/Study Grant

You can study up on classic or cutting-edge technique all you want, but many chefs will attest that one of the most valuable aspects of cooking is an intimate knowledge of ingredients and the people who produce them.
To help bring cooks and producers closer together, each year we award our Jean-Louis Palladin Professional Work/Study Grant—named after the French chef whose dedication for mentorship matched his legendary talent—to qualified, professional chefs who are looking for hands-on experience with farmers or artisans. Candidates may apply for a pre-arranged internship (such as a stint at the Chef's Garden in Huron, Ohio, or an apprenticeship with a winemaker in France) or draft an original plan and curriculum.
Applications for this year's grant are due Friday, June 15. Click here to download the form.
