James Beard Foundation's Taste America® Preview: Los Angeles

 

We’re starting the second month of our national epicurean tour, James Beard Foundation’s Taste America® with a great lineup of events on the West Coast. This weekend we’re setting up shop in Los Angeles for two days of star-studded events featuring Taste America All-Star James Beard Award Winner Aarón Sánchez, and local star and James Beard Award Winner Nancy Silverton. Join us Friday for a reception featuring dishes from some of the city’s hottest chefs, followed by an exclusive, one-night-only four course dinner prepared by Sánchez and Silverton. Saturday the action moves to Sur La Table, for cooking demos and book signings from Sánchez and free tastings from local vendors Fallen Fruit from Rising Women and Pernicious Pickling Co.

We’re headed to the Pacific Northwest for our next stop on James Beard Foundation’s Taste America® tour! This weekend we’re staking out Seattle for two days of culinary celebrations featuring Taste America All-Star and James Beard Award winner Marc Murphy, as well as local star and James Beard Award winner Tom Douglas. Join us Friday night for a reception with dishes from some of the city’s hottest chefs, followed by a unique four-course menu prepared by Murphy and Douglas. On Saturday Murphy will show off his skills with a cooking demo at Sur La Table, where you’ll also be able to sample local fare with free tastings from artisan vendors La Panzanella, Theo Chocolate, and Mt. Townsend Creamery.

We’re now in full swing with our national epicurean tour, James Beard Foundation’s Taste America®! This weekend the action moves to Dallas for two days of food-filled exclusive events featuring Taste America All-Star and James Beard Award winner Patrick O’Connell, as well as local star and James Beard Award winner Stephan Pyles. Friday night gets things started with a tasting reception from some of Dallas’s finest, followed by a special collaborative dinner cooked up by O’Connell and Pyles. On Saturday, Sur La Table hosts a day of free culinary events, with a cooking demo from O’Connell, and free tastings from local vendors Paula Lambert Cheese and Kate Weiser Chocolates.

We’re off to the races this weekend with the first stops on the James Beard Foundation’s Taste America® national food festival! The epicurean tour kicks off with two days in Atlanta, where James Beard Award Winner and Taste America All-Star Barbara Lynch will team up with James Beard Award–winning local chef Anne Quatrano. Join us Friday for a reception featuring dishes from some of the city’s hottest chefs, followed by a special dinner prepared by Lynch and Quatrano, who are joining forces on this unique menu for one night only. On Saturday the duo will take their skills to Sur La Table for cooking demos and book signings, where you’ll also have the chance to mix the national with the local with free tastings from local vendors High Road Craft Ice Cream & Sorbet and Spotter Trotter Charcuterie.

JBF to Partner with Food+Tech Connect's Dining Hackathon

 

In the age of Uber and Taskrabbit, it’s only natural that the brains of Silicon Valley would want to tackle the larger issues of how and what we eat. After its wildly successful Hack//Meat events in California and New York, Food+Tech Connect is shifting its focus on innovation to the realm of the restaurant with Hack//Dining NYC.

 

The weekend hackathon, organized by Food+Tech Connect in collaboration with Applegate, Google, Chipotle, and Studio Industries, will take place June 27–29 at General Assembly in New York City. Over the course of three days, chefs, engineers, executives, designers and data scientists will develop and test open-source software and hardware to tackle industry-wide challenges in areas of Sustainable Sourcing, Wellness, Food Safety, and Operations. JBF Joins with Real Food Media Contest as Official Media Partner

 

From Vermont's new GMO-labeling mandate to documentaries about public health, it's clear that food-system concerns are gaining traction with American consumers. The Real Food Media Contest is giving a platform to these issues with its second annual competition of film shorts about sustainability, policy, and other food-system matters.

 

As one of the contest's official media partners, we're helping to spread the word about their open call for entries. JBF president Susan Ungaro is also serving as a judge along with Tom Colicchio, Michael Pollan, and other food-system advocates. From the RFMC website:
