Green & Black's USA Features JBF-Themed Q & A

JBF and the Illumination Fund Collaborate on the NYC Green Cart Fresh Food Pack

Seeing that education is an important slice of the JBF pie, we’re always looking for opportunities to help others learn about the value of good meal. So when the Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund—a supporter of the New York City Department of Health’s Green Cart Initiative—invited us to collaborate on a project that feeds our fellow New Yorkers, we were more than happy to oblige.
In an effort to improve the diets of city dwellers with limited access to fresh produce, the Green Cart Initiative has just released the NYC Green Cart Fresh Food Pack, a two-part collection of 20 recipes made with fruits and vegetables commonly and seasonally found on Green Carts. The set, which includes a tip card and a kids card, features recipes by renowned New York chefs, healthcare... Read more >
JBF Partners with Flavour Gallery for Tasty Tees

Our forté has been and will always be food, but lately we've been dabbling in other trades. Earlier this year we released our first book, and now we're unveiling our first clothing line. Thanks to our new partnership with Flavour Gallery, a food-themed attire company, now anyone can show their love for JBF by donning one of their "JBF Collection" t-shirts. Styles are available for men, women, and even children, and a percentage of every purchase will be donated to JBF. Browse and buy here.
Serving Up James Beard Continues!

Have you dined at a Serving Up James Beard participant yet? This campaign will continue through Labor Day weekend, so there's still plenty of time to enjoy food inspired by the dean of American cookery. Better still, a dollar of every purchased dish will go toward our our Silver Anniversary Scholarship Drive.
Remember to keep visiting the Serving Up James Beard page to see if any restaurants in your area are participating. We've also been tweeting photos of Beard-inspired dishes, which you can find by searching for #servingupjamesbeard.
JBF to be Next GREEN & BLACK’S Inspiring Expert

It’s no secret that the James Beard Foundation is fond of GREEN & BLACK’S chocolates. Aside from being completely irresistible (when our supply in the office runs out, it’s considered a serious emergency), the products are crafted from Fair Trade and organic ingredients from around the world, reflecting a visionary commitment to honest and responsible sourcing that took root when the company was founded over 20 years ago. This means that GREEN & BLACK’S bars are not only delicious, but that there’s a special ingredient, an artisan, or a far-flung locale for their fans to discover behind every flavor.
Now, thanks to our partnership with Green & Black’s, their fans will get to discover the James Beard Foundation. We’re excited to announce that we’ve been asked to be the next GREEN & BLACK’S Inspiring Expert. Starting today, June 11, 2012, you can visit the Green & Black’s USA Facebook page and submit a... Triar Seafood Donates Proceeds to JBF Scholarship Drive

One of the James Beard House's most valued suppliers, Triar Seafood has provided chefs with pristine quality, responsibly sourced seafood for over 20 years. And for the next month, this fine purveyor is also giving support to the next generation of chefs. From now until the end of February, a percentage of every purchase of sustainably harvested Royal Red shrimp from Triar Seafood will be donated to the James Beard Foundation Silver Anniversary Scholarship Drive. This beautiful, coral-red species is sought after by discerning chefs for its delicate flavor, superior texture, and numerous culinary applications. Collected off the coast of St. Augustine, Florida, these prized shrimp are delicious as sashimi, ceviche, in salads, sautéed, and more. While chiefly a wholesale supplier, Triar Seafood will also deliver to home
JBF Partners with the Kids Food Festival

If you're a parent of a budding foodie and you live in New York City, consider swinging by this weekend's Kids Food Festival, which will be held at Citi Pond℠ in Bryant Park from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Saturday and Sunday. The James Beard Foundation will be hosting its own Future Foodie Pavilion, which will feature cooking demos by Jim Lahey, Jehangir Mehta, Ellie Krieger, and more. We're also running a kiosk in the general-admission area, where we'll be selling the participating chefs' cookbooks and holding a bake sale to benefit our Silver Anniversary Scholarship Drive. Since JBF is working hard to nurture this country's culinary future, the Kids Food Festival, whose mission is to fight childhood obesity through fun and flavorful activities around balanced food choices, is a natural partnership. General admission is free, but tickets must be purchased to attend demos at the JBF pavilion and any programming on the
JBF Partners with the Children's Museum of Manhattan

As part of its EatSleepPlay™ initiative, the Children's Museum of Manhattan has teamed up with JBF to produce the James Beard Foundation Family Chef Series, which include healthy-cooking demonstrations by popular chefs that provide families with fun ways to prepare simple recipes with fresh and affordable ingredients. Each session includes a demonstration, recipe tastings, and a question-and-answer period; the partnership's larger goal is to raise awareness of childhood obesity, which fits into the EatSleepPlay™ drive toward healthier lifestyles among kids.
