JBF Partners with Taste of Tennis

The James Beard Foundation is the 2013 Taste of Tennia beneficiary

Food is the obvious name of the game here at the James Beard Foundation, but this month, we're dipping our toes into the wide world of sports.

Taste of Tennis, the world's premier food and tennis experience, drafts professional athletes and influential chefs for a unique tasting event with a sports twist. Each year, a portion of the event's proceeds benefits an organization that exemplifies passion, dedication, and excellence. The 14th Annual BNP Paribas Taste of Tennis is proud to name the James Beard Foundation as its 2013 beneficiary. In addition to amazing food, this one-of-a-kind experience on August 22 will feature a variety of themed lounges, signature cocktails, and appearances by host Serena Williams and headlining chef and JBF Award winner Marcus Samuelsson. ShortDocs Challenge: Cast Your Vote for the People's ShortDoc Award Winner

The James Beard Foundation is partnering with the Third Coast International Audio Festival's 2013 ShortDocs Challenge

As we reported a few months back, we've partnered with the Third Coast International Audio Festival (TCIAF), a curator of "sound-rich stories", on its ShortDocs Challenge, an annual competition that invites storytelling enthusiasts to create a brief radio piece inspired by the theme of the 2013 JBF Food Conference, appetite. TCIAF encourages entrants to "interpret 'appetite' broadly, from the literal to the figurative. Consider stories of hunger and obesity, craving and satiety, profit and desire."

After some serious listening, the TCIAF team whittled... Read more >

Bocuse d'Or USA Now Accepting Applications for 2015 Competition

Applications for a spot on the Bocuse d'Or USA team are now being accepted

Think you have what it takes to represent America at the world's most prestigious culinary competition? The Bocuse d'Or USA Foundation is now taking applications for a coveted spot on Team USA, which will go on to compete at the next Bocuse d'Or in Lyon, France in 2015. The entry period ends June 30.

Led by our friends Daniel Boulud, Thomas Keller, and Jerome Bocuse, the foundation will invite eight applicants to audition for the team this fall, with two possible outcomes: one competitor, along with his or her commis, may be chosen to advance directly to Lyon, or the directors could select four finalists to compete in a national competition in 2014. In the latter scenario, the winner of the national contest will go on to represent the United States at the Bocuse d'Or.... Read more >
