On the Menu: February 27 through March 5
Here’s what’s happening at the Beard House next week:
Sunday, February 27, 12:00 P.M.
Baker's Brunch
Nationally lauded dough master Joanne Chang has proven her baking chops with a sticky-bun Throwdown challenge win against Bobby Flay. This month she’s joining us at the Beard House for a sweet and savory brunch celebration of her new cookbook, aptly named Flour after her three successful Boston-area shops.
Monday, February 28, 6:30 P.M.
The James Beard Foundation Greens: Blending at Brooklyn Winery
Join JBF Greens and the gentlemen from the Noble Rot at Brooklyn Winery for a hands-on wine experience that explores the intricacies of blending wine. You’ll leave with a better understanding of the winemaking process and the formula for your own proprietary blend.
Monday, February 28, 7:00 P.M.
Hudson Valley Star
Hudson Valley star chef Peter Kelly returns to the Beard House with a 2010 JBF Award nomination for Best Chef: Northeast to his credit. He’ll be joined by the talented chefs from his restaurant empire for a special dinner showcasing Kelly’s signature, refined cuisine.
Tuesday, March 1, 7:00 P.M.
Indulgent Italian
For food lovers, the biggest thing to open at Lincoln Center this year was not the fall fashion shows but Jonathan Benno’s highly anticipated restaurant. Join us when the Thomas Keller protégé and former Per Se chef de cuisine gives us a taste of his meticulously crafted, contemporary Italian fare.
Wednesday, March 2, 6:00 P.M.
Beard Burger "Bun"anza
Burger lovers, take note: New York’s top chefs will create their favorite renditions of the quintessential American dish for our paean to the patty. A selection of cocktails, wines, and beers will also be served at this walk-around tasting.
Thursday, March 3, 7:00 P.M.
Columbia Valley Terroir
Portland’s James John Cafe developed a cult following for its simple bistro cuisine, which proudly features the bounty of the Pacific Northwest. Chef/owner duo Suzanne Bozarth and Aaron Solley bring their talents to the Beard House with a menu that will pair perfectly with the terroir-driven boutique wines of the Grande Dalles.
Friday, March 4, 12:00 P.M.
Spectacular Southeast Asian Lunch
Frequented by celebrities drawn to its sleek setting, Pranna began earning raves for its modern Southeast Asian food after Keith Kornfeld took over the kitchen last June. Kornfeld, who most recently cooked at Nahm, the first Michelin-starred Thai restaurant in Europe, will showcase his evocative fusion cuisine at this Beard House luncheon.
Saturday, March 5, 7:00 P.M.
Umbrian Vegetarian Feast
During past visits to the Beard House, Lorenzo Polegri has wowed us with his rich, hearty interpretations of traditional Umbrian cuisine. This time the Italian culinary star will collaborate with chefs Kim Brookmire and Edwin M. Schölly on an equally indulgent, meat-free menu showcasing the region’s storied vegetables, pastas, grains, and cheeses.
