On the Menu: November 7 through November 13
Here’s what’s happening at the Beard House and around the country next week:
Sunday, November 7, 12:00 P.M.
Quintessential Brunch
New Yorkers have long said that Neil Kleinberg and DeDe Lahman wrote the book on brunch. Now they really have written the book—The Clinton St. Baking Company Cookbook comes out the day after this event, where they’ll give Beard House diners a taste of the delicious home-style creations that have inspired a devoted following.
Monday, November 8, 7:00 P.M.
Global American Table
With its lively atmosphere and urban energy, Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill has quickly become a must-try destination in Miami’s Midtown district. Timon Balloo, a Michelle Bernstein protégé and Sushi Samba alum, infuses the impeccable small-plates menu with his signature Latin and Asian flavors.
Tuesday, November 9, 7:00 P.M.
New York Food Meets Oregon Wine
Devoted to seasonal dining, the reinvented Park Avenue Café changes both its menu and its décor for each of the four seasons. For this Beard House dinner the restaurant’s celebrated executive chef, Kevin Lasko, is planning an elegant harvest celebration featuring wines from world-class Oregon wine producer Domaine Serene.
Wednesday, November 10, 6:30 P.M.
Annual Gala Dinner and Auction
An historic celebration of French cuisine and its culinary legends featuring a multi-course dinner paired with fine French wines and an extraordinary live and silent auction of once-in-a-lifetime food, wine, and travel packages.
Thursday, November 11, 7:00 P.M.
Roman Suckling Pig Dinner
Executive chef Nick Anderer executes his passion for traditional Italian cuisine with creative flair at Maialino, Danny Meyer’s new Roman trattoria. The acclaimed restaurant’s namesake dish, maialino al forno, or suckling pig, will be the centerpiece of the phenomenal feast.
Friday, November 12, 12:00 P.M.
Fall Luncheon
Dining at the House, a meticulously restored 1854 carriage house in the historic Gramercy Park neighborhood, is an intimate and cozy experience, one that will be easily replicated in the similarly historic James Beard House. Join chef Sean Olnowich for an elegant luncheon to celebrate the final weeks of fall.
Friday, November 12, 6:00 P.M.
Enlightened Eaters: A Workshop
Top Chef contestant and holistic-health champion Andrea Beaman returns to the Beard House for another installment of her popular workshop on seasonal eating and healthy living. During her interactive tutorial Beaman will show us how to extract the most flavor from locally sourced, nutritious ingredients in dishes easy to reproduce at home.
Saturday, November 13, 7:00 P.M.
Brett’s Roadside Kitchen
Chef Brett McKee has helped revive the traditions of Southern roadside eating by opening neighborhood spots whose menus pay homage to the culinary history of the region—think deviled eggs, crab fritters, and fried chicken. For his Beard House dinner McKee will be joined by his Roadside Kitchen chefs, Brannon Florie and Steve Jordan.
