Here’s what’s coming up at the James Beard House and around the country:

Tuesday, July 7, 7:00 P.M.

Boston Softshell Crab Blowout

Who better to headline our annual softshell crab extravaganza than a group of wicked talented Boston-area chefs? They’ll be collaborating on a bold, New England–inspired menu featuring the limited-time-only, crave-worthy crustacean in every savory course.

Wednesday, July 8, 12:00 P.M.

Beard on Books

Ex-pat Elizabeth Bard thought she had the life of her dreams with a gorgeous French husband and a home in the heart of Paris, but a chance trip to Provence on the eve of motherhood proved the start of a brand new chapter. In her new memoir, Picnic in Provence, Bard details the highs and lows of life as a new mom, a nascent entrepreneur, and a American negotiating Provencal culture and cuisine.

Wednesday, July 8, 7:00 P.M.

French-Italian Summer Feast

You’ll be dining on the French-Italian border at this dinner, which will be hosted by esteemed West Hartford chefs David Borselle of àVERT, a French brasserie, and Dorjan Puka of the Italian-Mediterranean Treva. The meticulously crafted menu will feature alternating courses inspired by the foods of each country.

Thursday, July 9, 7:00 P.M.

Flavors of Oaxaca

Oaxaca has long been known for its rich and revered culinary traditions (think pungent moles, smoky mezcals, spicy tamales). For this Beard House dinner, Oaxaca-born chef Mel Mecinas, who trained under Joachim Splichal and has been with the Four Seasons for almost two decades, has designed a menu to celebrate the foods of his native region.
