James Beard Foundation's Taste America® Preview: Charleston

 

The James Beard Foundation’s Taste America® national epicurean tour continues this weekend with two days of events in Charleston, featuring Taste America All-Star and JBF Award winner Art Smith and Local Star Mike Lata. Friday night kicks off with a tasting reception by some of Charleston's finest chefs, followed by an exclusive four-course dinner prepared by Smith and Lata. On Saturday the action moves to Le Creuset for cooking demos and book signings from Smith, along with free tastings from local vendor the Cocktail Club.

Q&A with JBF Taste America All-Star Art Smith

 

We’re about to kick off the James Beard Foundation’s Taste America®​ national tour, traveling from coast to coast to savor and sample the best of the country’s cuisine. It seems only fitting that JBF Award winner Art Smith is one of this year’s All-Star chefs, as his restaurants encompass various aspects of American cooking from the California-infused LYFE Kitchens to the down-home comfort fare of Table Fifty-Two. We’re only a few days away from the start of the James Beard Foundation’s Taste America®, which kicks off on September 18 in Miami. To celebrate the launch our ten-city epicurean tour, we asked some of this year’s All-Stars how they fight food waste in their restaurants and at home—and learned that these chefs are highly skilled at cutting down on waste and saving their scraps, no matter what their background. Throwback Thursday: All-Star Chefs Inspire through JBF Taste America

 

 

The James Beard Foundation’s annual Taste America tour assembles an all-star panel of celebrity chefs to travel cross-country for unique dining events, cooking demonstrations, and artisanal tastings. This week’s Throwback Thursday highlights a video from JBF Taste America 2013, where some of the nation’s top toques collaborated on exclusive, one-night-only tasting menus, bringing their passions and talents to eager epicureans across the country. Food Matters: Art Smith

Top Chef Masters makes its debut this week on Bravo and its roster of cheftestants is chock-full of JBF Award–winning and –nominated chefs like Rick Bayless, Roy Yamaguchi, and Cindy Pawlcyn. A player of particular note is our 2007 Humanitarian of the Year winner, Art Smith, whose work extends beyond the restaurant kitchen and into the community with his non-profit organization Common Threads. At its Chicago and Los Angeles locations, Common Threads participants learn about new cultures and our global community through food and cooking.
