Take one part historical inspiration, mix it with a chef whose résumé includes stints at Bondir, Menton, and Blue Hill at Stone Barns, and add a dash of reverence for regional cooking, and you’ve got Loyal Nine, one of Boston’s best-received restaurants last year. At the Cambridge hot spot, chef Marc Sheehan draws on Colonial-era gastronomy to highlight the best of modern New England cuisine, and tonight he’s trekking to the Beard House to show diners just how delicious the past can be. Ask a Chef: Loyal Nine's Marc Sheehan

 

Loyal Nine may have been inspired by a clandestine group of American colonists, but the buzz around this restaurant has risen far above a hush. Thanks to the talents of Menton and Bondir alum (and 2016 JBFA Rising Star semifinalist) Marc Sheehan, Loyal Nine was one of Boston’s best-received restaurants last year. The Bookshelf: Baking with the Brass Sisters

 

Marilynn and Sheila Brass are known for their devotion to America’s culinary past, scouring old cookbooks and handwritten recipes to ensure that our nation’s home-baked favorites survive for the next generation. In their latest tome, Baking with the Brass Sisters, the duo compiled recipes that traveled alongside incoming immigrants, as well as favorites that sprouted out of Yankee soil. Walking up the Beard House back stairs Here’s what’s happening at the Beard House and around the country next week: Wednesday, July 28, 7:00 P.M. Antebellum Luxury Once a grand estate house then occupied by Union soldiers, the impeccably restored Monmouth Plantation is now a small luxury hotel and the site of restaurant 1818, named for the year the plantation was built.
