Our series on cooking seasonally continues when Top Chef contestant and natural foods chef Andrea Beaman returns to teach guests how to prepare delicious summer dishes with just-picked ingredients from local markets. Participants will learn how to maximize the health benefits of locally sourced food by cooking meals packed with nutrients as well as flavor.

After Alfred Portale wowed us with his braised artichoke ravioli at last year's gala auction, we've been counting down the days until the iconic chef's Beard House dinner. The highly anticipated meal is going down tomorrow night, for which Portale will round up his New York team (as well as the crew from his semi-new Miami outpost, Gotham Steak) to prepare this New American menu:
Cauliflower Custard with Santa Barbara Sea Urchin, Golden Osetra Caviar, and Aged Soy Sauce
Hamachi Sashimi with Asian Pear, Radishes, Honshimeji Mushrooms, and Soy–Yuzu Sauce
Truffle-Crusted Atlantic Halibut with Romanesco Cauliflower, Marcona Almonds, and Vermouth Emulsion
50-Day-Aged Niman Ranch Sirloin with Market Carrots, Vidalia Onion Rings, Bone Marrow, and Bordelaise

Reel Food: JBF Award Winner Alfred Portale on the Early Show

The JBF annual gala dinner and auction, our most anticipated event of the season, is still several weeks away, but bidding for our gourmet silent auction is already up and rolling online. The packages are as exciting as ever, including a spot in a baking class taught by doughmaster Jim Lahey, a five-course tasting menu for four diners at New York's Gotham Bar and Grill, and a spirit-reviving getaway to Sedona Rouge Hotel & Spa in Arizona. Bidding will remain open through November 9, with the silent auction taking place on November 11 at the Four Seasons Restaurant.
