Taste America Local Dish Challenge: Final Standings Update!

The James Beard Foundation's Taste America® Local Dish Challenge

Here's a final update on the standings for James Beard Foundation's Taste America® Local Dish Challenge! Chicago still leads, but only by a slim margin. With two days left in the contest, any of the leading cities could still win this one.

 

If you're late to the game, here's your last refresher: order a "Taste America Local Dish" at one of the contest's participating restaurants, snap it on your phone and upload it to Instagram, tagging your image with #JBFTasteAmerica and the suggested hashtag for your city. After the promotion ends on October 31, the city with the most uploads will receive $10,000 or 10 percent of funds raised nationally, whichever amount is higher, in the form of a donation to a local food charity.

James Beard Foundation's Taste America® Phoenix

 

In addition to Boston, our final weekend of James Beard Foundation's Taste America® was spent in Phoenix. On Friday we enjoyed a spectacular meal prepared by local James Beard Award winners and Taste America All-Star Suzanne Goin. We spent the next day at Sur La Table, watching cooking demonstrations by Goin and Check, Please! Arizona's Robert McGrath, and also tasted samples from local artisans Steve's Wonder Mustard, Laura Gourmet, Tracy Dempsey Originals, and the Mix Up Bar. James Beard Foundation's Taste America® Boston

 

The fifth and final weekend of James Beard Foundation's Taste America® is in the can! Last Friday our team headed to Boston, where we enjoyed a spectacular meal prepared by local James Beard Award winners and Taste America All-Star Michael Voltaggio. On Saturday we went to Sur La Table to watch cooking demonstrations by Voltaggio and James Beard Award–nominated pastry chef Joanne Chang. You can view images from the weekend's events here

It's time for another Local Dish Challenge standings update! Chicago's lead has widened since our last check-in, but we've got just over a week left, so keep those entries coming!

 

How this all works: order a "Taste America Local Dish" at one of the contest's participating restaurants, snap it on your phone and upload it to Instagram, tagging your image with #JBFTasteAmerica and the suggested hashtag for your city. James Beard Foundation's Taste America® Los Angeles

 

In addition to New York City, our fourth weekend of James Beard Foundation's Taste America® made a stop in the dynamic city of Los Angeles. On Friday we enjoyed a spectacular meal prepared by local James Beard Award winners and Taste America All-Star Rick Bayless. We spent the next day at Sur La Table, watching cooking demonstrations by Bayless and Top Chef's Fabio Viviani and tasting samples from Bling Bling Dumpling, Coffee Commissary, Nary Dairy, and Mills + Company.

The James Beard Foundation's Taste America® Boston

 

We're approaching the final weekend of James Beard Foundation’s Taste America®! Here's a preview of what we'll be up to in Boston, one of the tour's last stops.

 

On Friday, October 18, we're kicking off the festivities at the Boston Center for the Arts with "The Chefs Table", a multi-course meal that showcases Boston's top culinary talent, who will be joined by special guest and Taste America All-Star Michael Voltaggio.

 

On Saturday, we'll be at the Copley Place location of Sur La Table for a day of free cooking demos and local product tastings.
