Taste America Local Dish Challenge: Current Standings

James Beard Foundation's Taste America® Local Dish Challenge

It's time for another Local Dish standings update! Chicago is still in the lead, but Santa Barbara has continued to make impressive gains. It's still anyone's game, folks. 

 

A Local Dish refresher: order a "Taste America Local Dish" at one of the contest's participating restaurants, snap it on your phone and upload it to Instagram, tagging your image with #JBFTasteAmerica and the suggested hashtag for your city. After the promotion ends on October 31, the city with the most uploads will receive $10,000 or 10 percent of funds raised nationally, whichever amount is higher, in the form of a donation to a local food charity.

 

We'll continue posting updated standings every week until the fundraiser ends.

The James Beard Foundation's Taste America® Boston

 

We're approaching the final weekend of James Beard Foundation’s Taste America®! Here's a preview of what we'll be up to in Boston, one of the tour's last stops.

 

On Friday, October 18, we're kicking off the festivities at the Boston Center for the Arts with "The Chefs Table", a multi-course meal that showcases Boston's top culinary talent, who will be joined by special guest and Taste America All-Star Michael Voltaggio.

 

On Saturday, we'll be at the Copley Place location of Sur La Table for a day of free cooking demos and local product tastings. James Beard Foundation's Taste America® Philadelphia

 

In addition to San Francisco, our third weekend of James Beard Foundation's Taste America® made a stop in the great city of Philadelphia. On Friday we enjoyed a spectacular meal prepared by local James Beard Award winners and other top chefs from the City of Brotherly Love. The next day we headed to Sur La Table to watch cooking demonstrations by Taste America All-Star Carla and the team behind Philadelphia's acclaimed vegan restaurant, Vedge. James Beard Foundation's Taste America® San Francisco

 

The third weekend of James Beard Foundation's Taste America® is a wrap! Last Friday our team headed to San Francisco, where we enjoyed a spectacular meal prepared by local James Beard Award winners and other top chefs from the Bay Area. On Saturday we went to Sur La Table to watch cooking demonstrations by Taste America All-Star Wylie Dufresne and JBF board chair and seasoned pastry chef Emily Luchetti. Taste America Local Dish Challenge: Current Standings

We've got another Local Dish standings update! While Chicago still leads, Santa Barbara has made the biggest gain with about 50 percent more entries than last week. The contest ends in a little more than three weeks—it's still anyone's game.

 

A Local Dish refresher: order a "Taste America Local Dish" at one of the contest's participating restaurants, snap it on your phone and upload it to Instagram, tagging your image with #JBFTasteAmerica and the suggested hashtag for your city. After the promotion ends on October 31, the city with the most uploads will receive $10,000 or 10 percent of funds raised nationally, whichever amount is higher, in the form of a donation to a local food charity.

James Beard Foundation's Taste America® Los Angeles

 

It's time for a look at this weekend's other James Beard Foundation’s Taste America® city: Los Angeles!

 

On Friday, October 11, we're kicking off the festivities at Union Station with "Food Trucks with the Foundation", a showcase of LA's best authentic Mexican and gourmet trucks, with beers from local breweries to wash it all down. After the reception, Taste America All-Star Rick Bayless will join some of LA's most groundbreaking chefs (full lineup is here) for a five-course meal inside the station.

Now in its penultimate week, James Beard Foundation’s Taste America® will be continuing its cross-country tour this Friday. Here's a preview of what’s on deck in New York City, one of our two upcoming stops.

 

On Friday, October 11, Taste America All-Star Daniel Patterson will join a superlative crew of New York City chefs (see the full lineup here) at Tom Colicchio's Riverpark, where the group will prepare a multi-course meal that links the worlds of food and art.

James Beard Foundation's Taste America® Las Vegas

 

Our second weekend of James Beard Foundation's Taste America® also made a stop in Las Vegas. On Saturday we went to Sur la Table to see cooking demonstrations by Taste America All-Star Masaharu Morimoto (who also showed off his vocal talent) and JBF Award–winning pastry chef François Payard. Later that night we headed to the main pool at the Mirage for a walk-around tasting of food and drink prepared by local James Beard Award winners and other Sin City talent.
