James Beard Foundation's Taste America® Preview: Seattle

Marc Murphy and Tom Douglas

We’re headed to the Pacific Northwest for our next stop on James Beard Foundation’s Taste America® tour! This weekend we’re staking out Seattle for two days of culinary celebrations featuring Taste America All-Star and James Beard Award winner Marc Murphy, as well as local star and James Beard Award winner Tom Douglas. Join us Friday night for a reception with dishes from some of the city’s hottest chefs, followed by a unique four-course menu prepared by Murphy and Douglas. On Saturday Murphy will show off his skills with a cooking demo at Sur La Table, where you’ll also be able to sample local fare with free tastings from artisan vendors La Panzanella, Theo Chocolate, and Mt. Townsend Creamery.

Video: Marc Murphy's Favorite Sandwich

JBF Award–winning chef and Food Network star Marc Murphy may have spent his early childhood in far-flung locations such as Paris, Milan, and Rome, but his favorite sandwich is decidedly all-American. Watch the video above for details, and stay tuned for more sandwich-related video content, as we continue to tap renowned chefs for their favorites during National Sandwich Month.

Murphy is also traveling to Seattle in September for James Beard Foundation's Taste America®, our ten-city epicurean tour of exclusive dining events, cooking demos, artisanal tastings, and more. On the Menu: Our Labor Day Weekend Menu

labor day menuMarc Murphy's mini lobster rolls; Karen DeMasco's sweet corn budino with blueberries and cornmeal shortbread

As summer’s twilight looms, we’re testing the strength of our shopping bags by loading them up with ingredients for these tasty late-season recipes. This menu may not call for a piping hot grill, but it will still help you cope with the fact that another summer has come and gone. Chilled Carrot Soup With Clotted Cream, Pistachios, and Mint This elegant dish is souped up (sorry, we can’t resist) with curry, sweet pistachios, and an unexpected dollop of clotted cream, making it one of the more cosmopolitan carrot purées we’ve seen.

Recipe: Mini Lobster Rolls

Marc Murphy's Mini Lobster Rolls Want a taste of the ocean that doesn't come with a sunburn or sand in your bathing suit? Make a plate of Marc Murphy's adorably pint-sized lobster rolls. His version is decidedly pro-mayonnaise, mixing the condiment with roasted garlic, tarragon, and Old Bay seasoning. We think it could convert even the staunchest members of the pro-butter camp.
