It’s Friday afternoon, which means you officially made it through another week! Celebrate this weekend's Summer Solstice with our latest Happy Hour cocktail, Mr. Beard’s Citrus Cooler. This recipe comes care of Beard House staff member Victoria Jordan-Rodriguez, who has been making a version of the drink every summer for years. “The base is strong,” she explained, “but the Perrier really lightens it up. And if you don’t add the soda water, the base can be made in the morning and marinate until you want to drink it. Mr. Beard didn’t make this recipe, but I like to think that he would have enjoyed it!"

Announcing the Taste America Local Dish Challenge

Earlier this summer, we announced our upcoming Taste America Local Dish promotion, a national fundraiser for our educational programming and initiatives. Getting involved is easy: just visit a participating restaurant and order its official Local Dish. A dollar from every dish sold will be donated to JBF's Taste America Education Drive. 

 

But it doesn't stop there. We decided that Local Dish needed a little competitive spirit, so today we're unveiling the Taste America Local Dish Challenge. James Beard Foundation's Taste America

 

James Beard was an educator, prolific cookbook author, pioneering television personality, and a promoter of American cuisine long before “farm-to-table” and “American regional cooking” were part of our culinary lexicon. He was a tireless traveler, bringing his endorsement of good food and recipes prepared with fresh, wholesome American ingredients, to a country just becoming aware of its own culinary heritage.
