America Cooks with Chefs: The Final Competition (and a Recipe!)

 

It's time for the final phase of America Cooks with Chefs, our healthy cooking competition in partnership with the Clinton Foundation. We've paired six ordinary Americans from across the country with JBF Award–winning chefs, who have equipped our contestants with nutritious recipes and valuable cooking tips for healthier lifestyles. This weekend, at the Clinton Health Matters Annual Activation Summit, each contestant-and-chef duo will prepare their signature recipe for conference attendees and judges. With stops in Chicago, Miami, and La Quinta, California in the books, America Cooks with Chefs now heads to Los Angeles for its fourth episode. In this seven-part cooking competition, contestants go behind the scenes at a James Beard Award–winning chef’s restaurant to learn tips, tricks, and advice for cooking more nutritious meals. The participants will also attend the 2015 Clinton Health Matters Initiative (CHMI) conference in California, where they will demonstrate their new skills in a live cooking challenge judged by a panel of celebrities.

After stops in Chicago and Miami, America Cooks with Chefs is hopping over to the West Coast for its third installment. In this seven-episode cooking competition, contestants will go behind the scenes at a James Beard Award–winning chef’s restaurant to learn tips, tricks, and advice for cooking more nutritious meals. The participants will then attend the 2015 Clinton Health Matters Initiative (CHMI) conference in California, where they will demonstrate their new skills in a live cooking challenge judged by a panel of celebrities.

Hot on the heels of our first episode, America Cooks with Chefs returns this week with its second installment. Each episode will follow one contestant as they go behind the scenes at a James Beard Award-winning chef’s restaurant to learn tips, tricks, and advice for cooking more nutritious meals.

 

Episode two follows Michael Angelo Gonzalez, a Miami native who loves his family’s African American and Cuban traditional foods, but is coming to understand that their diet is harming their health. Michael wants to make a change: he wants to learn budget-friendly cooking techniques so that he can continue to cook the foods his family loves, but in a healthier way.

We're thrilled to announce that America Cooks with Chefs, a cooking competition conceived in a partnership with the Clinton Foundation, has reached a milestone this week: the first episode of the seven-part video series is here! Each episode will follow one contestant as they go behind the scenes at a James Beard Award—winning chef’s restaurant to learn tips, tricks, and advice for cooking more nutritious meals.

 

Our first episode features Victoria Phillips, a working mother of two, who wants to cut back on high-calorie convenience meals that she and her husband often feel forced to prepare for their family because of time constraints. America Cooks with Chefs Announces Healthy Cooking Competition Contestants

 

American Cooks with Chefs, the healthy cooking initiative launched by the Clinton Foundation in partnership with JBF, has revealed the six contestants who will pair up with James Beard Award–winning chefs to create the ultimate healthy and delicious dish.

 

The contestants will meet their chef collaborators at Kitchen Camps, where they’ll “make-under” their favorite decadent dish into a nutritious meal. The ultimate test comes at the Clinton Health Matters Conference in January 2015, where the contestants will compete in a Live Cooking Challenge

 

Here are the contestants and their JBF Award-winning chef mentors:

  • Jonathan Saturay (NYC) will be paired with chef Maria Hines (Seattle)
  • Vinita Lark Williams (Los Angeles) will be paired with chef Mary Sue Milliken (Los Angeles)
  • Kathy Partak (Auburn, California) will be paired with chef Naomi Pomeroy (Portland, Oregon)
  • Jordan Kennedy (Alexandria, VA)

JBF Partners with the Clinton Foundation to Launch America Cooks with Chefs: The 800 Calorie Challenge

 

We're excited to announce our new partnership with the Clinton Foundation to launch America Cooks with Chefs: The 800 Calorie Challenge, a cooking competition that will pair six lucky home cooks with six celebrity chef “trainers,” including JBF Award winner Tony Mantuano and Mary Sue Milliken, to create healthy, approachable meals. An online video series will feature an episode with each duo as they take part in an intense, one-day “cooking well kitchen camp” at the chefs’ restaurants, working together to redesign a recipe around healthy nutritional guidelines without sacrificing taste or presentation. The contestants will then attend the 2015 Clinton Health Matters Initiative (CHMI) conference in La Quinta, California, where they will bring their new skills to a live cooking challenge at the conference, where a panel of celebrity judges will select a winner.
