0827_outsidelands_427x318 Next week, the Beard Foundation is taking a rather unusual field trip—to a music festival. It might sound like an odd match at first, but hear us out. Outside Lands takes place in one of America’s greatest food cities, San Francisco, and that important fact hasn’t been overlooked by its creators. They are giving the wines and food of California top billing with Winehaven and A Taste of the Bay Area. Twenty-five wineries, from big name trailblazers like Au Bon Climat and Bonny Doon to the next generation of boutique operations like Bedrock Wine Co. and Three Thieves, will be under the Winehaven tent pouring multiple vintages and varietals for music and wine lovers alike. To pair with these offerings will be some amazing food from great Bay Area restaurants and companies like Hog Island Oyster Co., the Fatted Calf, Let’s Be Frank, and Taylor’s Automatic Refresher. It promises to be a stellar weekend of music, food, and wine. Sure, Pearl Jam and the Dave Matthews Band are great, but we’re in it for the wine. And the food. Stay tuned in the week ahead for some insightful interviews with a few of the winemakers who’ll be sharing their wines at Winehaven. And make sure to follow us on Twitter for live reporting (and tasting) during the festival.
