The James Beard Foundation is deeply troubled by allegations of sexual misconduct in the restaurant industry. We would like to direct anyone who is experiencing harassment or other misconduct to ROC-United, a resource for workers. Find out more here.

The James Beard Foundation is a member of RAISE and supports the work of ROC-United, organizations dedicated to raising industry labor standards and protecting workers in the food service industry.

“If people care about inequality at all, there couldn’t be a more important moment or important industry to be thinking about,” said Saru Jayaraman, co-founder and co-director, ROC-United, and a 2015 JBF Leadership Award recipient.

The James Beard Foundation is an organization based on respect, ethical conduct, and hospitality. We believe it is important and essential to our success that every employee of our Foundation feels supported, safe, and appreciated when they come to work. Here is a link to our Employee Handbook, several pages of which specifically address employee conduct, our policy against harassment of any kind, and procedures and protection for our staff.

The James Beard Foundation also hopes that the work we are doing in nurturing leadership skills among women with its Women’s Entrepreneurial Program will help combat inequality in the workplace. Visit here for more information.
