On the Menu Here's what's going on at the Beard House next week! Monday, June 27, 7:00 P.M. Top Toque Marc Forgione is having quite a run: his restaurant has earned both a Michelin star and a glowing review in the New York Times, and most recently, he competed against the country’s top chefs to claim the title of the Food Network’s Next Iron Chef. Join us as we celebrate this young chef’s accomplishments with an evening of his signature creative American cuisine. Tuesday, June 28, 7:00 P.M. Pensacola Celebration Located at the westernmost point of Florida’s panhandle, Pensacola boasts a mouthwatering array of Gulf Coast seafood—from succulent shrimp and grouper to locally harvested clams, scallops, and crab. At this dinner the city’s top chefs, who take serious pride in their local ingredients, will wow us with their interpretations of Southern cuisine. Wednesday, June 29, 12:00 P.M. Beard on Books Join us in the dining room of the James Beard House to hear renowned oenologist Mark Oldman discuss the new frontiers of the wine world. Wednesday, June 29, 7:00 P.M. New York Buzz Gabriel Stulman is a fixture on the West Village restaurant scene, and deservedly so—his supremely chic, retro restaurants can keep you sated from breakfast through the wee hours of the following morning. You’ll feel like a regular at this Beard House dinner, sampling tasty creations from the chefs of all three of Stulman’s neighborhood hot spots. Thursday, June 30, 7:00 P.M. Sustainable New England Each of the chefs taking part in this dinner—including 2011 JBF Award semifinalist Will Gilson and nominee Matt Jennings—has cooked at the Beard House before, but for this special dinner, these good friends are teaming up to stage a spectacular showcase of sustainable New England ingredients. Friday, July 1, 10:00 A.M. Life on the Farm in Willamette Valley Painter Clare Carver lives on a 110-year-old homestead in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Her subject matter is garnered from the rural surroundings at Big Table Farm, which she runs with her husband, Brian Marcy. Clare has exhibited throughout the Bay Area, the Northwest, and Australia, including solo shows in San Francisco, Napa, and Sonoma. She studied on the East Coast at Tyler School of Art and has traveled extensively in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. Her life and work are now integrally linked to rural life—raising cattle, goats, and chickens, producing Big Table Farm wine, and training draft horses. She captures these events with a rich and immediate style, giving her work a signature depth of color. For details and reservations, visit www.jamesbeard.org/events or call 212.627.2308.
