A Schmaltz to Remember Even if you don’t know your derma from your deckle, this celebration of delicatessen delights will not disappoint—and you won’t go home hungry. Save the Deli author David Sax, along with deli maven Gail Simmons, has assembled a team of talented chefs to transform once-pervasive deli classics into creative, contemporary cuisine. Eat. Eat! Tuesday, March 16, 6:30 P.M. The Elements of Tofu We’re learning about the Japanese art of tofu making at this special JBF Greens dinner. Chef Hiroki Abe of EN Japanese Brasserie will create a five-course seated tasting menu that showcases the many forms of fresh tofu and its rich history and artistry in Japan. Sake expert Kazuhide Yamazaki of Japan Prestige Sake International will pair a delectable sake with each course and guests will also enjoy Stella Artois, Leffe, and Hoegaarden beers. Tuesday, March 16, 7:00 P.M. Gusto Latino At his Nuevo Latino hot spot, Anthony Lamas has drawn a loyal following with his extensive selection of marinated seafood and Southern-influenced dishes. Join him and wine importer David DuBou for an unforgettable cross-cultural feast. Thursday, March 18, 7:00 P.M. Taste of Chicago An homage to the Windy City’s bygone eras, Sepia serves seasonally inspired, locally sourced cuisine that is at once steeped in tradition yet decidedly modern. Chef Andrew Zimmerman, who trained under Sandro Gamba at Nomi, recently earned the restaurant a three-star rave review from the Chicago Tribune’s Phil Vettel. Friday, March 19, 7:00 P.M. Norouz: Persian New Year Each spring people across Iran ring in Norouz, a 13-day Persian holiday marking the beginning of a new year, by exchanging gifts and feasting on symbolic foods at the homes of friends and neighbors. Join chef Maziar Farivar when he leads our celebration of the 3,000-year-old holiday with a traditional and festive menu. Saturday, March 20, 6:00 P.M. Celebrity Chef Tour: Eggleson, VA Celebrity Chef Tour events are dinners that benefit the James Beard Foundation, in which JBF Award winners and other celebrity chefs travel to private clubs, resorts, and other exclusive venues across America to prepare dinners and promote the culinary arts. Saturday, March 20, 7:00 P.M. Benziger Wines and Brothers Brothers Christian and Christophe “Duppy” Ticarro have each cooked a solo dinner at the Beard House, but this month they’re joining forces to create an unforgettable wine lovers’ feast to be paired with organic and biodynamic offerings from Benziger Family Winery.
