Beard House Here’s what’s happening at the Beard House and around the country next week:

Sunday, October 31, 5:00 P.M. Friends of James Beard Benefit: Sunday Supper South This fall our perennially popular Sunday Supper benefit is heading south to Atlanta’s trendy Westside neighborhood. Hosted by JBF Award winners Anne Quatrano and Clifford Harrison, who will be joined by their talented team, this family-style feast will be prepared by a group of the region’s best and brightest chefs. Monday, November 1, 10:00 A.M. Chefs and Artisans Darryl Estrine’s photographs are iconic, bold, and aggressive. His Chefs and Artisans show reflects the strong bond between the art of chefs and the craft of their artisanal producers. Chefs from this series will be preparing a dinner at the Beard House on November 1. Monday, November 1, 7:00 P.M. Harvest to Heat The just-published Harvest to Heat cookbook celebrates the collaborative efforts of the visionary small-scale farmers, artisanal producers, and prescient chefs who are leading the charge to shape the future of our food world. Join us for a dinner showcasing five of the book’s influential chef-advocates and their exquisite farm-to-table cuisine. Tuesday, November 2, 6:30 P.M. Friends of James Beard Benefit at The Girl and the Goat Score one of the most elusive reservations in town at Stephanie Izard’s hotter-than-hot new restaurant, the Girl and the Goat. Izard and a cadre of Chicago superstar chefs have designed an irresistible menu, complete with local beer pairings, for this phenomenal benefit dinner. Tuesday, November 2, 7:00 P.M. Oregon Food and Wine Celebration What do you get when you combine impeccable Pacific Northwest ingredients with spot-on classical technique? The Rabbit Bistro and Bar, whose executive chef, Gabriel Gil, will be serving his seasonally inspired, contemporary French fare with a tantalizing selection of fabulous Oregon wines at this Beard House dinner. Wednesday, November 3, 12:00 P.M. Beard on Books In Diet for a Hot Planet, Anna Lappé shares collected stories from organic farmers, village leaders, scientists, and government leaders who are all examining the role that industrial agriculture plays in climate change. Her global travels and thorough research convincingly argues that agriculture is a destructive player, but the book also offers inspirational, positive ways to improve our foodways for the health of our planet, our future, and ourselves. By ‘eating wisely’ and choosing an organic diet free of excess waste, Lappé (whose mother, Frances Moore Lappé, penned Diet for a Small Planet) explains how each of us can fight for environmental reform and combat one of the most important battles of our time. Wednesday, November 3, 7:00 P.M. Modern New York An A-list party scene in the trendy Meatpacking District, Abe & Arthur’s serves up contemporary American cuisine in a chic space. Acclaimed chef Franklin Becker, who previously garnered glowing reviews at New York City’s Brasserie and Capitale, treats foodies and celebs alike to his bold flavors and modern takes on classic dishes. Thursday, November 4, 6:00 P.M Celebrity Chef Tour: Detroit Celebrity Chef Tour events are dinners that benefit the James Beard Foundation, in which JBF Award winners and other celebrity chefs travel to private clubs, resorts, and other exclusive venues across America to prepare dinners and promote the culinary arts. Thursday, November 4, 7:00 P.M. Vineyard to Table At the Claremont Hotel’s Meritage restaurant, chef Josh Thomsen (a French Laundry alum and 2010 StarChefs.com Rising Star Chef) creates special tasting menus that feature ingredients grown or raised at Northern California wineries. By pairing each of these dishes with wines produced at the same properties, he takes the farm-to-table concept to the next level. Friday, November 5, 6:00 P.M. Friends of James Beard Benefit Barbecue and Wine Pairings: La Quinta, CA JBF Award–winning chef and restaurateur Jimmy Schmidt and his team at Morgan’s in the Desert are joining forces with esteemed chef Larry Forgione and world-renowned winemaker Heidi Barrett for two delectable food and wine events. The weekend kicks off with an evening of barbecue and wine pairings under the stars, where guests will have a chance to meet the chefs and winemaker. Friday, November 5, 7:00 P.M. New England Harvest A grand Victorian resort, the Ocean House pampers guests with breathtaking beach views, luxurious accommodations, and exquisite New England–inspired cuisine, composed of offerings from lush, surrounding farms. The hotel chefs’ sophisticated Beard House dinner will be paired with Napa-style wines from the property’s partner winery. Saturday, November 6, 6:00 P.M. Friends of James Beard Benefit Dinner and Wine Pairings: La Quinta, CA This spectacular tasting menu pairs the dishes of JBF Award winners Larry Forgione and Jimmy Schmidt with the iconic—and often hard-to-come-by—wines of La Sirena Winery. Guests will appreciate the intimate setting of La Quinta Resort’s historic, firelit Santa Rosa Room while embarking on an unforgettable gastronomic journey. Saturday, November 6, 7:00 P.M. Autumn in Ohio Discover the beauty of autumn in the Midwest when Beard House alum Jonathan Bennett of Moxie the Restaurant brings the region’s rich flavors back to New York. The dinner will feature a plethora of produce from local Ohio purveyors for a colorful celebration of the fall harvest.
