Summer in Connecticut 

After competing on Hell’s Kitchen, chef Kevin Cottle took on another ambitious venture, purchasing a ski resort and opening the elegant Fire at the Ridge. Now this blazing-hot chef will light up the Beard House, paying homage to his New England roots through a refined expression of Connecticut’s lush summer bounty.

Elegant Tavern Supper

Chef Joseph Burnett, who cut his teeth under JBF Award winner and Florida icon Norman Van Aken, celebrates the vibrant cuisine of the Gulf Coast at Orlando’s Osprey Tavern, serving stylish and seasonal plates that are dappled with global touches inspired by his world travels.

Beard on Books

Chef, restaurateur, and author Pierre Thiam has a passion for his homeland of Senegal, and is on a mission to introduce global audiences to the diverse and delicious cuisines of West Africa. In his latest cookbook, Senegal: Modern Senegalese Recipes from the Source to the Bowl, Thiam creates an edible travelogue that highlights the traditional and contemporary recipes from across the nation’s kitchens. Featuring insights and stories from the cooks and producers Thiam met over his journey, and vibrant dishes inspired by those encounters, Senegal presents a gastronomic glimpse into the country’s past, present, and future.

French-Mediterranean Joie De Vivre

Louisiana Tailgate

Long before he appeared on Next Food Network Star, Jay Ducote was wowing judges at tailgating competitions in his native Louisiana. Now Ducote is bringing his prizewinning Bayou-based know-how to the Beard House for a tailgate-inspired celebration of cuisine and culture that’s not to be missed.

Chefs & Champagne: Wölffer Estate Vinyard

Chefs & Champagne® is the James Beard Foundation’s annual summer tasting party, featuring flowing Champagne and culinary offerings from a select group of more than 40 celebrated chefs, many from JBF Award–winning restaurants. Chefs & Champagne® raises funds for the philanthropic work of the James Beard Foundation, a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The recipient of the Christian Wölffer Scholarship Program, which supports students pursuing food and wine studies, will also be announced at the event. 

Our 2016 honoree is multiple James Beard Award–winning chef, author, philanthropist, and restaurateur John Besh.
