Applications are now open for the 2020 James Beard Foundation Scholarships. This year we're accepting applications for several scholarships, tuition waivers, and grant opportunities, totaling more than $480,000.

New scholarships for 2020 include:

  • The Audi PROOF Scholarship (with support from OpenTable): four (4) scholarships of varying amounts will be awarded in Minneapolis, Nashville, Pittsburgh, and Seattle, to women hoping to pursue a career in culinary arts, pastry arts, restaurant management, or beverage studies at an accredited institution.
  • The Ecole Ducasse Scholarship: one (1) scholarship will be awarded to students planning to enroll or currently enrolled at Ecole Ducasse, Paris or Ecole Ducasse, Yssingeaux.
  • The James Beard Kvarøy Arctic Women in Aquaculture Scholarship (sponsored by Kvarøy Arctic, Kvarøy Island, Norway): aimed at increasing the number of women in aquaculture, this scholarship will be given out to a woman who currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an aquaculture degree program or pursuing an aquaculture major. One (1) scholarship of $10,000 will be granted, along with the opportunity for a paid internship upon graduation.
  • OpenTable Cultivating Talent Scholarship: based in San Francisco, OpenTable has been committed to helping restaurants run and grow their businesses since 1998. Through this scholarship, they are working with San Francisco Cooking School to help train and grow the next generation of Bay Area chefs. One (1) scholarship of $5,000 will be granted to a student currently enrolled or planning to enroll San Francisco Cooking School.

Established in 1991, the James Beard Foundation Scholarship Program assists students from across the food community including aspiring and established culinary professionals who plan to further their education at a licensed or accredited culinary school or hospitality institution, college, or university. As of 2020, the Foundation will have awarded more than $8.5 million in financial aid to over 2,000 recipients.
