Open for Good is the James Beard Foundation’s campaign to help independent restaurants survive this crisis, rebuild better, and thrive for the long term. The programs provide critical resources to help independent restaurants build the capacity to come back stronger, more equitable, more sustainable, and more resilient.
Investment Fund for Black and Indigenous Americans
The Investment Fund for Black and Indigenous Americans is a central program of our Open for Good campaign, providing direct financial resources and mentorship for food or beverage businesses that are majority-owned by Black or Indigenous individuals, in acknowledgement of the immeasurable contribution that these two communities have made to the modern American foodscape. The Fund is part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to continually lift up the Black and Indigenous business owners in our industry, not just in light of the pandemic, but for good.
Women's Leadership Fund
Supporting aspiring women chefs and food entrepreneurs to develop their leadership and culinary skills through mentorship grantee opportunities.

Supporting the next generation of great culinary talent in America.

Providing significant financial support to twelve regional students in the areas of food sciences, food studies, business, and the culinary arts.
Andrew Zimmern “Second Chances” Scholarship
Offering a student faced with extreme challenges a "second chance" to overcome these hardships.
Jean-Louis Palladin Work/Study Grant
Providing grant support to recipients to spend time learning from and working with master growers, producers, and food artisans; to cook alongside renowned chefs in America and abroad; and to study varied specialized skills.
Patrick Clark Memorial Scholarship
Supporting an aspiring student in the name of one of the leading exponents of the New American Cuisine, Chef Patrick Clark.
Peter Kump Memorial Scholarship
Commemorating the inspiring culinary legacy that Peter Kump created by supporting a deserving student in his name.
