Join JBF Greens for an exploration of Southern Indian cuisine at Copra in Japantown.

Open since 2023, Copra is a deeply personal project for executive chef/co-owner Srijith “Sri” Gopinathan. Born in Kerala on the southern coast of India and raised in the neighboring state of Tamil Nadu, Sri grew up in a home situated amongst rice paddies and coconut trees, where large-scale cooking was an everyday endeavor. Copra celebrates the region’s coastal cuisines, which have been influenced by centuries of migration and trade with neighboring Sri Lanka. Not only does his menu feature dishes commonly enjoyed at festivals, but many recipes have been passed on by Sri’s grandmother, mother, and other close relatives.

Widely known for developing the Cal-Indian culinary genre, chef Sri, along with restaurateur Ayesha Thapar, make up the team behind Ettan in Palo Alto, Little Blue Door in Los Altos, and Eylan in Menlo Park. For this occasion, chef Sri will create a multi-course dinner using seasonal ingredients from Northern California to pay homage to the recipes of his childhood.
