A Misspelled Tweet-Rye Cocktail

Nicholas DiCeglie

Twitter Cook-Off Winner

Nick, a self described NYC patent attorney, former chemist, foodie, and amateur mixologist, submitted this recipe to our first ever Twitter Cook-off contest.

The original recipe is as follows: (2oz rye; 0.5oz lime; 0.5oz sryup(in 1:1 sugar:H20 steep 5each cardamom & *anise pod, 1 stk cinnamon/12hrs); 2-- Peychaud : SHAKE). The cocktail was met with rave reviews by our panel of judges and it was declared the winner. In honor of his typo, Nick decided to name his winning recipe "A Misspelled Tweet." The perfect combination of sweet, sour, and spice, we love this drink.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces rye
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce infused simple syrup
  • 2 dashes of Peychaud’s Bitters

Infused Simple Syrup:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 5 cardamom pods
  • 5 star anise pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Method

To make the infused simple syrup, combine the sugar with 1 cup of water in a small saucepan and heat to dissolve. Add the cardamom, star anise, and cinnamon stick and let steep for 12 hours at room temperature. Strain.

To prepare the cocktail, combine the rye, lime juice, infused syrup, and bitters in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with a lemon twist, if desired.
