Total Nonstop Action Cocktail

Method

Don’t be intimidated by the use of smoked saline in this dangerously drinkable cocktail from Hella Bitter co-founder Tobin Ludwig: it’s easy to make, and you’ll have plenty leftover for your other bartending experiments.

  • 1 1/2 ounces reposado tequila
  • 1 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 3/4 ounce honey water*
  • 2 dashes Hella Bitter Citrus bitters
  • 3 to 4 drops smoked saline**

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake vigorously for 7 to 8 seconds, then strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon wheel.

*To make honey water, dissolve 1 part honey into 1 part hot water.

**To make smoked saline, place 2 ounces of smoked salt in a bowl. Add hot water, 1 ounce at a time, until the salt is completely dissolved, about 8 ounces all together. (To make a smaller or larger recipe, use an approximate ratio of 4 parts water to 1 part salt.) Smoked salt can be purchased at a specialty shop or online.
