How We Continue to Honor Women in the Industry

At the James Beard Foundation, we strive to honor the innumerable contributions of women in the culinary field, during Women’s History Month and beyond. Through our programs, we hope to influence a better, more equitable food, restaurant, and hospitality field where women are encouraged to grow and thrive at the helm. We are committed to providing the tools, resources, and networks to women to ensure more women-owned businesses; more financial investment in women-owned businesses; and more women in leadership positions across the industry.
Our Women’s Leadership Programs are designed to support all women in the hospitality industry at all stages of their careers through scholarships, mentorships, training, specialized entrepreneurial education, and more. Our Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership program, offered in partnership with Cornell University, is a 10-week virtual curriculum includes sessions on negotiating, design thinking, business and financial models, funding your businesses, and more. This April, our community of WEL alumnae will meet for the inaugural Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership Summit in Washington D.C. Interested in learning more about WEL? Over the course of this past month, we hosted a series of Instagram Lives for our Women’s History Month series. We featured a variety of voices from across the industry—including alumnae from our Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership (WEL) program—to chat about topics including navigating motherhood in hospitality, mindfulness at work, new business models, and leveraging your brand on social media.
