Former Top Chef contestant Andrea Beaman’s Beard House workshop focused on seasonal, balanced cooking. For her dessert, she created this simple, sweet, and healthy apple crumble.

Ingredients

  • 3 apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 1-inch chunks
  • 1/3 cup apple juice or cider
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, preferably whole grain
  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup maple sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoon butter, softened

Method

Preheat oven to 375ºF. Place diced apples and apple juice in a 9 x 9-inch baking dish. Combine flour, oats, maple sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a medium bowl. Using your fingers, work the softened butter into the flour mixture until it looks like crumbs. Top apples with the crumb mixture and bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling.
