People flourish when resources and opportunities are accessible and supported by meaningful networks.

The Community team at the James Beard Foundation has been developing initiatives and cultivating collaborative relationships in an effort to find the most meaningful ways to support the food and hospitality industry.

Our community imperatives are:

  • Education: Historical factors created and deepened the inequities of our industry; these must first be understood and addressed to design impactful solutions.
  • Equity: This industry is rich and diverse. Using the lens of inclusivity and empowerment to “build back better,” we will transform the culture to better reflect this.
  • Accessibility: Access to critical information translates into assistance and opportunity. More than ever, we need to find ways to make sure this information gets to all who need it.
  • Mental Health: In light of a devastating pandemic, mental health awareness, education, and action has never been more crucial to this industry. We strive to provide resources in support of mental wellness for all.

Take our BIPOC Industry Survey to continue informing our development strategies for initiatives, programming, and events.

We have collaborated with a number of incredible organizations to carry out these imperatives and provide ongoing support. Through informational webinars, virtual events and conferences, digital awareness campaigns, and resource sharing, we’ve worked together in the true spirit of community.
