America Cooks with Chefs: The 800 Calorie Challenge

Enter the contest for the chance to be matched up with James Beard Award–winning chefs, including Maria Hines, Tory Miller, Mary Sue Milliken, Tony Mantuano, Jimmy Schmidt, and Michelle Bernstein to learn how to cook and then take part in a live competition!

America Cooks with Chefs is a first-of-its-kind health and wellness initiative, created in partnership between Palisades Media Ventures, the Clinton Foundation, and the James Beard Foundation. Through an educational and entertaining format, America Cooks with Chefs will address a dilemma facing millions of Americans today: how to incorporate healthy and nutritious food into their daily lives.

The competition will kick off with an open submission process to identify six everyday Americans who reflect how the country looks, eats, and cooks. The chosen contestants will be paired with six James Beard Award–winning chefs for a one-day "Kitchen Camp," during which time they will learn tips and tricks for turning raw ingredients into healthy, delicious, and easy-to-prepare meals containing fewer than 800 calories. Entries will be accepted through the initiative's website from August 12 through September 3, 2014.

Following the Kitchen Camps, contestants will train independently before bringing their newfound skills to a Live Cooking Challenge at the Clinton Health Matters Initiative Conference scheduled for January 26, 2015. Conference attendees and millions of online viewers will watch as a panel of celebrity judges selects the winning contestant and recipe.
