Kitchen Here’s what happening at the Beard House next week: Monday, December 14, 6:00 P.M. Beard Burger ‘Bun’anza New York’s top chefs put their unique spins on the all-American burger. Fabulous wine, beer, and cocktails will be served. Tuesday, December 15, 7:00 P.M. Christmas in Connecticut In the 1945 film Christmas in Connecticut, a stranded sailor dreams of a gourmet five-course feast. Luckily for us, the decadent yuletide meal is no illusion as talented Connecticut chef Dan Kardos joins us at the Beard House with a seasonal and locally sourced menu filled with holiday cheer. Wednesday, December 16, 12:00 P.M. Beard on Books David Chang fans, rejoice: the critically acclaimed chef has written Momofuku, a collection of recipes from his NYC restaurant empire (yes, the pork buns are included). Co-authored with Peter Meehan, this casual and chatty cookbook offers recipes for the Korean-influenced dishes that garnered Chang his devoted following. It also reads like a conversation between two guys who just really love food, and pulses with the spirit of a new, fired-up generation of New York chefs. Momofuku is a sure sign that Chang isn’t going away any time soon. Wednesday, December 16, 7:00 P.M. Historic Hamptons Christmas After reopening in 2002 under the capable watch of acclaimed chef Kevin Penner, the 1770 House was deemed “a pure pleasure” by the New York Times. Experience Penner’s flawless contemporary American cuisine for yourself when he brings it, along with the Hamptons holiday spirit, to the Beard House. Thursday, December 17, 7:00 P.M. Benchmark Holiday Dinner The talented chefs featured at this elegant dinner know a thing or two about luxury. Each of their restaurants is located in a Benchmark Hospitality International hotel or resort, where the pampering extends into the dining room. Their over-the-top Beard House menu, an annual tradition, is the perfect excuse for a night of preholiday indulgence. Saturday, December 19, 7:00 P.M. Big Easy in the Big Apple After joining the Crescent City’s culinary elite with his French-accented Southern fare at Herbsaint, Donald Link opened Cajun restaurant Cochon in 2006, winning a JBF Award the following year. The good times will roll when Link and his top toques bring a tantalizing taste of the Big Easy to the Beard House. For details and reservations, visit www.jamesbeard.org/events or call 212.627.2308.
