The American Way of Eating: Undercover at Walmart, Applebee’s, Farm Fields and the Dinner Table
For nearly a year, Tracie McMillan worked, ate, and lived alongside the working poor who produce and sell America's food. In her book, The American Way of Eating: Undercover at Walmart, Applebee's, Farm Fields and the Dinner Table, McMillan brings readers into these grueling working conditions and shares the lives of those who feed us.
Tickets to events held at the James Beard House cover the cost of food and a unique dining experience. Dinners are prepared by culinary masters from all regions of the United States and around the world. All alcoholic beverages are provided on a complimentary basis and are not included in the ticket price.
Enlightened Eaters is an educationally minded series of readings, workshops, discussions, and other programs focusing on health, nutrition, sustainability, and environmental issues. Acqua Panna and S.Pellegrino waters, tea from Le Palais des Thés, Lavazza Coffee, and Green & Black’s Organic Chocolate will be served. Snacks will be provided and guests are also welcome to bring a brown-bag lunch. This event is free to students, with a suggested donation of $20 for nonstudents.
