Upcoming events at the James Beard House

Here's what's happening at the James Beard House next week:

Sunday, September 15, 12:00 noon

Thanks to the recent boom in low-and-slow joints throughout New York, city dwellers no longer need a boarding pass to get a taste of bona fide ’cue. We’ve rounded up chefs from this new wave of restaurants for an all-out, barbecue-centric Beard House brunch.

Monday, September 16, 7:00 P.M.

Carolina Grandeur

At the Grand Bohemian Hotel Asheville, chef Adam Hayes has pioneered a contemporary menu of sustainable and locally sourced European comfort food that’s a perfect fit for the hotel's chic, hunting-lodge setting. It’s no wonder that Red Stag Grill is lauded as one of Appalachia’s premier dining destinations.

Tuesday, September 17, 7:00 p.m.

Flavors of Indonesia

Jakarta native Widjiono “Yono” Purnomo creates his singular style of cuisine by seamlessly blending his homeland’s exotic flavors with American ingredients and masterful French technique. Join us to find out why upstate residents have flocked to his kitchens for over 20 years.

Wednesday, September 18, 7:00 P.M.

Summer of Riesling

Riesling evangelist (and JBF Award–winning sommelier) Paul Grieco has made it his mission to highlight the undersung varietal with his nationwide Summer of Riesling campaign. For this Beard House dinner, chef Marco Canora of Hearth and Terroir will showcase Grieco’s exceptional Riesling selections with a wine-friendly menu of his Italian-accented seasonal fare.

Thursday, September 19, 7:00 P.M.

Essence of Spain: Tapas to Sherry

At Portland’s Toro Bravo, the authentic, Barcelona-inspired tapas menu changes daily and delectable Spanish sherries beckon the discerning palate. Join us at the Beard House to see why John Gorham was recently named Best Chef of the Year by Portland Monthly, and to preview his new Toro Bravo cookbook.

Friday, September 20, 7:00 P.M.

Northern Italian Powerhouse

A can’t-miss, standard-setting restaurant in a city packed with great food, Staffan Terje’s Perbacco has been named to more “best of” lists than can be recounted here. Join us at the Beard House for a taste of the chef’s masterful Piedmontese and Ligurian cuisine.

Austin Romantic

After working for David Bouley’s acclaimed restaurant empire, Todd Duplechan and Jessica Maher branched out to create their own masterpiece, Lenoir.
